The Powell Street Festival is volunteer run, 99% of the makeup are volunteers, there’s only three, full-time, paid staff. It takes hundreds of volunteers to put on the festival each year. The festival’s really special organization, and I think because of the really unique programming, and just the inclusivity in so many aspects – not just being in the neighbourhood and wanting to be a part of the community – attracts people who also want to work in that kind of environment. I think bottom line is, it’s really fun place to be, and once you get involved with the festival, you’re a part of the family. And that’s something that means a lot to people.
