Só Danço Samba – Bossa Nova Guitar Lesson #4: Basic Phrase Fully Syncopated

January 21, 2020

In syncopated basic phrase the last beats in both measures are played. Usually chord changes occur on those beats. It’s played with legato here, only beats 6 and 12 are played with staccato. This is played at half speed. Syncopated basic phrase played in tempo. High strings are muted with right hand fingertips and bass with the side of right hand thumb. Many basic phrases, variations and modifications are played in this song. On some occasions bass and chord are played on the same strong beat even after the chord has been played on the previous weak beat. Intro phrase is played with staccato, except the beat 11. Syncopated basic bossa nova phrase. Here Joao continued with Em9. Third basic bossa nova phrase variation. Syncopated basic phrase again. In some instances both bass and chord are played on the main beat. Third basic bossa nova phrase. Second half of second basic phrase repeated. Second basic bossa nova phrase section is played with staccato, except beat 12. Modified second phrase, with beat 8 skipped. Here bass and chords are played together except on beat 13. Syncopated second basic bossa nova phrase. Third basic bossa nova phrase. If you block YouTube ads please donate some small amount to

Your channel is AWESOME my friend, thanks so much! I got a question, which version of So danco samba are you using for the chords of this video? Getz/Gilberto or any other recording? Cheers from Chile and thanks again.

I must say: COMPLIMENTS! For your fantastic site: precise, professional, easy, detailed, and useful…. Till now I never found a well conceived site about bossa nova: my passion. I wonder if you can add more examples at your wonderful collection. I'd like to follow WAVE (Jobim) and CAMINHOS CRUZADOS! Please continue to improve your exceptional site and example.
