Hello everyone, it’s Ola Englund,
your favorite most annoying Swede and welcome to my new video featuring this
Randall Warhead amplifier The Warhead is the first signature amplifier
that Dimebag put out together with Randall and before they released the amplifier they weren’t really happy on how it sounded But they released it anyway, which is kind of weird According to some info online, on the internet,
Dimebag only used the warheads for cleans So, he never actually used the distortion for live
or anything like that Later on, Randall put out the X2 amplifier,
which i’m going to demo in another video I have not tried that amplifier,
but I remember when this came out the first time in Sweden, you know, Randall was basically non-existent But when they put out the Warhead, they finally got, like, distribution in Sweden and I was like ‘Oh my god … Oh my god, this not-‘ I could not believe that there would be
a Dimebag amplifier. I’d been trying to find, like, Randalls before,
but it was basically impossible Now, finally, they’re releasing the Warhead and, you know, it’s Dimebag, so it should sound really good And I remember I tried it out and was like
‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ I guess it sounded good, but back in the day,
I wasn’t really that … you know … Woke. And it sounds pretty good, right? Yeah. No. No, it does not sound good. It’s actually being helped out by these three little gentlemen right here I have an MXR 6-band graphic equalizer,
an Ibanez Tube Screamer and a Fortin 33 pedal this is how I came up with the best compromise on trying to get as close to Dimebag as possible Yeah, I tried to use the MXR and the PQ …
this one, the PQ4 … … Equalizer, to get it going like I would on the older Randall amplifiers, but it just didn’t work that well I mean the amp didn’t respond like I wanted it to So, this kind of setup right here is basically … this is Dime’s kind of settings for the 6-band graphic equalizer and then I have this tube screamer
basically dialing down the tone a little bit because I don’t want that modern sounding quack-quack-quack, you know? And then in this one, I’m just … you know,
it’s tightening up the sound a little bit. So this is the sound without the Grind
(the 33 guys, it was the 33 … stupid) Which is kind of thick, but when you engage this
it kind of tightens it up a bit and you have to be really careful, because look Yeah, the amp doesn’t really respond in a good way And this right here is a noise gate, by the way,
a Fortin ZUUL Let’s just plug it in You know, when they launched the amp … you were supposed to be able to just plug in
and it would sound super awesome So, let’s just try that. I have the … this Washburn has
a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker in it. I mean, it should be … it should be good for Dimebag, right? But it has a boost mode as well, so let’s try that Yeah, it’s not really that hot sounding I must say Doesn’t really sound that much like Dimebag, so … I went online to find the manual and I found
these official settings Dime settings, Massive Crunch, Modern settings.
Let’s try it out. Let me take a picture of this real quick,
because I’m an asshole I’m gonna take a picture of my settings right now, because I will not remember how I set it afterwards and it was a pain in the ass to get to this tone at least,
so … Smile. So, let’s try out the Massive Crunch S,o now I have the settings for the Dime Massive Crunch Yeah, sounds like ass. Alright, let’s try
the modern setting. Okay, I think we’re good to go
with the modern setting, guys. Let’s try this. It’s rather scooped, I must say, but let’s plug in all these awesome overdrives and you know, thingamabobs and see how it sounds. Is this on? Everything is on? It’s not too bad, but I mean, you need mids man It’s actually not that bad I must say But I mean, when they launched the amplifier, you were not meant to use overdrives like this into the amplifier It’s supposed to sound, you know, like Dimebag,
but it did not Alright, so let’s go back to my … To my good setting. The Sweep, I set it to minimum and then it’s boosted So it’s like a lot of low mids being boosted, which is kind of like what Dimebag did in a way with all this gear I mean, if there’s something good about this amp
is that it’s so precise and you know, it’s like a tweaker’s nightmare I would say,
because you have too many things to do here which is good and bad I guess but if you would ask like the 15 year old Ola … … I would rather have something simpler. Well, I mean, if you really kind of like dial it in,
it doesn’t sound too bad to be honest But other than that, if you’re not using any overdrives or anything like that, it’s not gonna sound that good … Yeah But I think I made it sound pretty good for my
‘Yesterday Don’t Mean Shit’ cover If you haven’t seen it go click up here I made a cover together with Delta Empire and Mario, like a vocal, guitar and drum and bass cover So check that out if you haven’t already
and also be sure to subscribe to my channel I also have an Instagram, go follow that one Click down here somewhere
and you’ll go do both at the same time It just makes a lot of sense. Alright, thank you so much for spending this awful little afternoon with me and see you next time I’ll drink some coffee

This tone may suck as is for Dime, but I see it faring well in a Stoner/Doom metal or rock ensemble.

It is a shame about this amplifier because it is an awesome looking amp. It has a good amount of features that many guitar players of today want and need but they just didnt quite get the tone down on this amp.

PLEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSE do the Dime Amplification D100 and the Krank Krankenstein soon! Lol I've trying to decide between the two of the for months! Other than manufacturer demos, and horrible audio quality reviews done in bedrooms, I can't find anything to make the decision any easier lol

  • Reply Realms Of Darkness October 3, 2018 at 7:36 pm

That amp head is absolutely toppling that 2×12…it needs to sit on a 4×12. Or, no, it could sit on a horizontal 2×12.

This calamity of an amp, and Ola's ensuing creative process to fix it, has led to possibly the snottiest sound I've heard. I'm gonna try my green pedal and joyo 6 band in the same way, into the front of my 6505+112 on the red channel.

I had one of these years ago. It was hands down the most unreliable amp I ever owned. I sold the thing AS IS on Ebay and it was one the best decisions I ever made. It was a buzzy sounding mess. It was a fairly expensive amp new but very lacking in build quality…

Look. I don't understand why anyone believes they can buy an amp head and sound like Darrell being pushed through a massive array of outboard, through his speakers, mics and out through the front of house and floor monitors. Get real.

  • Reply Bryan Keith December 30, 2018 at 5:31 am

I always thought they put the graphic eq in the amp to take the place of his mxr eg. So he wouldn't need the mxr in the signal path.

  • Reply Bryan Keith December 30, 2018 at 5:33 am

The horse sound while eq'ing the amp was hilarious. Brilliant work young sweed. Brilliant.

  • Reply Julian Milanesi January 4, 2019 at 7:18 pm

The thing with this amp is that the parametric eq acted as the PQ4, and the graphic eq was to give the tone the final shape

  • Reply Samuel Tosto January 12, 2019 at 7:21 pm

You use the distortion channel on this amp in the video I'm guessing right?

My friend Tony worked two summer jobs when we were in high school to buy this piece of shit. Then spent another 500 on pedals to make it actually sound ok. Eventually he went to the 2000 pantera show in Phoenix, had Dime sign it and sold it for 1500$ and bought a better amp

I think this problem is only with the 2nd release versions not the USA builds (power switch on back)  that came out first. Mine if dialed in right (which takes patience to achieve) sounds spot on with dimes tone.

  • Reply Jaycoby Hyde April 11, 2019 at 7:04 pm

My Warhead is different. The power switch is in the back and the head seems bigger than this one. Hmmm

  • Reply Michel Lieferink April 17, 2019 at 2:25 pm

    Cool video man! One question:
For example you keep the warhead amp and you change the speaker, will it chamge the sound or has the speaker nothing to do with the sound and tone?
