Portland program puts panhandlers to work

TWICE A WEEK, FIVE PEOPLE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN MINIMUM WAGE ON UNIFICATION PROJECTS AROUND TOWN. THEY WILL BE CLEANING UP PUBLIC SPACES AND THEY ARE DOING THAT INSTEAD OF PANHANDLING AS A WAY TO HELP PEOPLE WHO HAVE TROUBLE FINDING WORK. 200 PEOPLE THERE ENDED UP WITH JOBS. THEY SAY THAT IT IS A MORALE BOOST AND COULD LEAD TO POSITIVE CHANGES.>>THEY ARE GOING TO GET PEOPLE SAY THE PARK LOOKS GREAT. IT’S A GREAT TRANSITION FOR HAVING BEEN HER ASKED WHILE YOU ARE DOING HARD WORK.>>I LIKE TO GET OUT AND HELP THE COMMUNITY AND PICK UP TRASH. IT GIVES ME SOMETHING TO DO. THAT PROGRAM STARTED EARLIER THIS MONTH AND CLIENTS HAVE COLLECT DID 30 BAGS OF TRASH AROUND TOWN. ORGANIZERS WILL CONTINUE WITH
