I disliked the video, because I think that it is very risky for people to talk about prog "without the need for music theory", as some people may take away that you don't need music theory for composing good music in complex styles. Granted, there will always be good "ignorant" composers even in this kind of scenes, but it's impossible to overstate how much of an exception they are.

Online guitar teaching always seems to try and gather toward the lowest common denominator, which isn't really a problem as long as the genres of music analyzed and discussed are not too complex. But when it comes to prog, jazz, contemporary classical and maybe other stuff I don't know of, it should be all about harmony books, detailed analysis and practicing the fuck out of one's instrument. To me, this video sounds like such things are not encouraged.

I never really learned how to play but I write very proggy songs, this is 50% of my play book haha. Get some skilled musicians playing overtop that shit & it sounds 100% legit.
