5 MUST KNOW tips for your acoustic playing!

November 6, 2019

  • Reply Paul Davids January 15, 2019 at 4:22 pm

One little addition to #3: of course it can sometimes sound good and make transitions sound nice and fluent. But very often it sounds just bad. It's more about the 'messy and accentuated' combined with open strings. Not just the open strings themselves.
See point 5.1, do you notice I'm keeping it clean? All I'm saying is be careful not to smack it into everything, because it's difficult to get it out of your system 🙂

My problem is that i cant play anything on my guitar without someone showing me how to do it 😭💔

  • Reply Blandinus _ September 3, 2019 at 7:38 pm

Tip 1 was absolutely nothing to do with dynamics, what you were looking at was texture, creating a 'thinner' sound by playing fewer strings at once. Dynamics are related to how hard you strum.

  • Reply Diego Navarro September 4, 2019 at 12:24 pm

Paul: Don't play open string while you change cords ( 5:13 ).
Also Paul: Plays open strings when showing percussion ( 8:18 ).

Despite, Awesome video man, keep it up! 🙂

#3 — I remember doing this and feeling like I'm doing something bold, edgy and spicy. I believe this is a beginner's trap. I'm don't do this anymore because I like to play dead notes instead ))

Can I ask about fingerpicking? Is it ok if I use picking sometimes? 'Cause in some songs I use picking and others I use fingerpicking. Some songs are nicer with picking and some songs are nicer with fingerpicing, because are e.g. more melodic. Is it ok that?

  • Reply Illusionlessness September 24, 2019 at 10:09 am

Probably won't see this, but is it a bad habit to learn visually or without tabs per se? Like watching that ending percussion/fingerpicking at .25 speed to get the pattern right? I'm trying to get into music theory and pretty soon sight reading, but this is how I've been learning most of my songs and techniques up to this point, and I think I'm developing a bad habit…

the open transition #3 can be equated with people to breath in audibly when they speak; both are extremely annoying. The Candian Prime Minister does this.

  • Reply Sasha Gryshyna October 8, 2019 at 1:02 pm

Why do people keep calling them 'dead notes'? It would be much better, if they'd call 'em 'ghost notes' or 'white notes'. Not a 'dead notes'. Nothing about music can't be dead!

Aside from that, this is the best tip video I have seen. I’m self taught and this helped me out tremendously man.
